Think about how many hours of your life you have already spent watching videos about skincare, apparel or whatever. New products are added daily. Beauty products, expensive beauty devices become popular overnight and you absolutely need to have them. Once you saved money up and you purchased something, another one appears with better performance. You are probably confused and disappointed by your purchase. If not, good for you.
Potential impact of social media on your mental health and self-confidence
Social media promote unrealistic standards in beauty and create sometimes low self-esteem issues to the women. Every new purchase may lead to false expectations and potential frustration whether it has to do with cosmetic products or apparel. The dress you saw on social media doesn’t fit you the same way. This makes sense since you don’t have the same body type. Under no circumstances should you lose your self-confidence. Don’t purchase what you see and before trying it.
The promising anti-aging serum didn’t do what it was claimed . The serum probably did what it could do but the false expectations created, made you question its efficacy. The way products are often presented discredits them.
Social media makes you chasing perfection while at the same time you get stressed. This in turn will affect your skin rendering your skincare ineffective. Stress is not a good advisor. Affects your health and your skin’s health.
Trying to be another woman, will make you lose your identity. Have you ever thought that the woman you see on social media is not as perfect as she pretends to be ? Filters do an amazing job. Constant comparison with other women that you see on social media may affect your mental health. May cause anxiety and depression.
Social media often promote body image issues and maybe eating disorders. You don’t need that in your life. Even if you don’t have the perfect body, it is your body and you need to take care of it in a healthy way. You shouldn’t follow diets or dietary regimens that would potentially cause health problems.
Promotion of dietary supplements through social media may be detrimental to your health if you decide to purchase them. I strongly believe that before you take a supplement you should discuss with a doctor especially if you have health issues or you take medications.
Social media can make you spending your money without reason especially when you make spontaneous decisions while watching a video. Keep your money for other activities. It’s not all about skincare and clothes.
On the other hand, social media help us to learn about new products in market. This is undeniable. As customers, you should be more vigilant, less trustful in what you are told. Transparency and honesty are often missing. You need to examine more the information provided. Moreover, you should stop charging your bathroom with dozens of products that you don’t have time to use. It is not reasonable. More cosmetic products doesn’t necessarily mean better skin.
About skincare, if you have skin problems, discuss with a dermatologist instead of spending money here and there. Don’t ask people without knowledge to give you an answer.
You should stop trying to be like other women. You don’t need to use the same foundation or the same lipstick. Choose what suits you, not what suits another woman.
Reduce the time you spend on social media. It is highly addictive.
Last but not least, your mental health and well-being must be your priority.
