Decluttering clothes can be a hard decision but I’ll give you some tips.
Whether you are determined to do it or not, here are some good reasons you should consider doing it.
Reasons to declutter your wardrobe
Every time you want to go out, you can’t find what to wear.
You waste your time trying to find possible outfits.
You always make the same usual combinations even you don’t like them because you don’t have more available time.
You iron your clothes but they are always wrinkled because your wardrobe is over-crowded. Consequently, you need to waste additional time on ironing.
You have forgotten clothes that you didn’t even wear for ages.
You think of updating your wardrobe because you don’t like the items inside or at least the combinations you make. You should first decide which ones you don’t need anymore and then you can buy new ones.
There are also those you don’t like, you want to get rid of them but you keep putting it off.
How to take the big step
Empty your wardrobe and clean it out. If you leave the clothes inside, you won’t be able to decide which ones you want .
Check them one by one to see if they are in good condition. Put aside those they are worn out. It may have been your favourite blouse for years but it is not probably in good condition anymore.
From the remaining clothes you have to decide which ones you wish to keep. This is a crucial moment. Indecision can make you re-fill your wardrobe with items you didn’t wear in years. Get rid of those you rarely use. This probably mean that you don’t like them.
Separate those that don’t fit or are not of your style.
Check your garments quality. A poor quality blouse will look cheap even combined with a more expensive skirt or pair of trousers.
If there are printed fabrics among your clothes, think if they are excessive. Do they express your personal style? Fashion trends often lead us to shop clothes that aren’t of our style. As a result, we forget them.
Look for combinations that you can make with the remaining ones. If you think you need a sweater, a blouse or a shirt to match a pair of trousers or a skirt, make the purchase but carefully and wisely. You don’t want to load your wardrobe once again. It’s best to have the piece in question with you when you go to the stores to see what can fit.
Carefully observe the colors of the clothes on you. Do they suit you? For example, does a beige blouse makes you look pale? If you add one of your scarves (the colors match), will your whole image change, or at least find a scarf of good quality to combine it with?
Re-organize clothes and accessories in the wardrobe. My rule of thumb is to organize clothes by color, with the lightest shade on the right. I also place matching colors next to each other. It’s up to you to decide how to do it.
Clothes need to be ironed to look nice and classy. I can’t imagine myself going out with crumpled clothes. I even steam them.
Last but not least, if you have accomplished all the above steps, your wardrobe will look “poorer” and you will feel a sense of loss. One of the biggest mistakes would be to have second thoughts and to bring back the clothes. Moreover, don’t rush to add impulsively new items unless you are sure they are necessary for you and can be combined with those you already have.
I hope the steps that I suggested, were helpful. I would like to read your comments. Don’t hesitate to do it.
