Skincare is not only about the face. The body is important as well. This post is about tips and advice on your journey to achieve a healthy and glowing body skin.
First of all, drinking water, the most inexpensive way to moisturize your skin. During summertime, that you sweat you should increase the water consumption.
Exfoliation is also an important step . You should only be cautious not to overdo . Under no circumstances should you deprive your body’s skin of its natural oils.
Hydrate your body with a proper lotion, milk or cream. You may also go for a body butter. Personally speaking, I am addicted to body butters.
You have the following options:
Body lotions have a lighter consistency than body milks or creams because they contain more water. They are faster absorbed and they are a good solution when you don’t have much time to wait for the product to be fully absorbed.
Body creams contain less water than body lotions, are thicker than body milks but need also bigger effort to be absorbed. They are a better option for very dry skin.
Body butters, my favorite ones, are a blend of butters and oils. Main ingredients may be cocoa butter and/or shea butter. They are very nourishing for the skin but a good massage is required to help the absorption due to their thick texture. Moreover, the massage you do is beneficial.
Body Oils are made of oil or blend of oils. When they are lightweight, they are easier absorbed by the skin.
Body lotions or milks that belong to dermocosmetics specialized in skin issues. They are lipid-replenishing and nourishing lotions or milks that help with itchiness and atopic dermatitis.
Retinol based lotions that help exfoliation and enhance collagen production in order to tighten sagging skin.
Body lotions with AHA’s and BHA’s that are exfoliating and give the body a more even tone.
Tightening and firming creams. I believe that such creams work as long as you use them. They don’t offer long-lasting results. If you want a firm, tight body you need much more. Healthy eating habits, exercise and maybe treatments by a professional.
Cellulite creams. Same point of view. Nothing can replace a healthy diet supplied with regular work-out. Cellulite also depends on other factors.
Last but not least lotions or creams that are made to add glow and shine to the skin but are not so hydrating and nourishing. Such products offer a minimal hydration and I think they should be applied after a moisturizer just for the glow effect.
You can also try a body gua sha. It is alleged to help with the lymphatic system and to reduce cellulite. Otherwise, a wood massage tool could help but consistency is required to get positive effects. Be cautious if you use them. You don’t need to apply a big pressure to avoid bruising and maybe broken capillaries. In case that you don’t feel you are able to control the pressure, don’t use such a tool.
What I love to do
I apply organic cocoa butter mixed with shea butter and cold-pressed almond oil.
In a nutshell, you should never neglect your body’s skin. You don’t need to buy the most expensive products in the market. You just need to be consistent as you probably do for your face.
During the summer, when you go to the beach or the pool, you never forget to use sunscreen and renew it regularly. You shouldn’t expose yourself to sunlight for longer periods of time if you don’t want to cause damage to your skin and premature aging.
Spend more time on swimming, which is great exercise, and less time on sunbathing. Avoid drinking alcohol while sunbathing. You will dehydrate your body even more and this will affect your skin.
